1. Regular Check-up for your Eyes
You need to visit an ophthalmologist/optometrist at least once a year. They will administer several tests to determine how strong your vision is or how healthy your eyes are. Based on the tests, you will be given a new pair of lenses for your glasses or medicines if needed.

2. Avoid rubbing your eyes
The hands are exposed to a lot of dirt, dust and bacteria, and all of these can be easily transferred to your peepers each time you touch or rub them. 3. A Healthy Diet to the Rescue
This is an age-old and sure-shot means of keeping your eyes healthy. There are certain foods that boost your eyesight and reverse the effects of ageing. Make sure your diet includes –
- Oily fishes that contain omega 3 fatty acids such as tuna, salmon, trout, sardines, mackerel, anchovies, herring etc.
- All kinds of seeds and nuts – walnuts, brazil nuts, peanuts, cashews, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds.
- Orange-colored foods like carrots, squash, cantaloupe, red peppers and yellow bell pepper.
- Eggs, soybeans, milk products and similar vegetarian protein sources.
- All the leafy green vegetables that you can get your hands on like spinach, kale and collards.
A healthy diet also reduces your chances of becoming obese or contracting diabetes or hypertension, which are a leading cause of eye problems.

4. Protect Your Eyes from the Computer Screen
When you work with computers and smartphones all day, it could take a toll on your eyes. It could cause eyestrain, blurry vision, dry eyes, headaches, and neck and back pain.
To protect your eyes, make sure your eyeglasses or contact lenses are up to date and good for looking at your computer screen. Also, make sure that your computer screen is at an eye-level to not strain your eyes from looking down for extended periods.
Try avoiding glare from windows and lights as well by using an anti-glare screen if needed. But if you are experiencing dry eyes, try blinking several times or use the appropriate drops for dry eyes.
Rest your eyes every 20 minutes and look 20 feet away for 20 seconds to not strain your eyes after using the computer or phone. Get up at least every two hours and try to get a 15-minute break.
5. Give up Smoking
Smoking is not only destructive to your lungs but it can also give you cataracts. It may damage your optic nerve and cause macular degeneration. If you are a chain smoker and quitting seems impossible to you, talk to a therapist.

6. Use the right kind of eye make-up
If you wear make-up, choose the brands that work well for you. Steer clear of eye shadows, mascara, and eyeliners that cause an allergic reaction to your eyes.
Don’t forget to use a make-up remover before going to bed to avoid bacterial build-up from residual make-up left in the eye area. Likewise, clean your make-up brushes regularly, especially those that you use for eye make-up application.
7. Get enough sleep
Just like the rest of your body, your eyes need to recharge too, and this happens while you sleep. So make sure that you get sufficient shut-eye each day to keep your eyes revitalized and healthy.

Being overweight or obese puts you at a higher risk of developing conditions such as diabetes or other systemic disorders, which may eventually lead to vision loss.
